Ingredients
These Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches are packed with tender shaved beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melty provolone cheese piled into soft hoagie rolls. A quick and satisfying meal that’s perfect for any night of the week!
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 1 medium green bell pepper
- 1 medium red bell pepper
- ¼ cup vegetable oil, divided use
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder, divided use
- 1 teaspoon onion powder, divided use
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided use
- 3 teaspoons kosher salt, divided use
- ¾ teaspoon black pepper, divided use
- 1 ½ pounds shaved steak
- Cache Valley® provolone slices
- 4 large hoagie rolls
Steps
- Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- While the pan heats, slice the onion and bell peppers thinly.
- In one bowl, toss the sliced onions and peppers with half of the vegetable oil, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix the beef with the remaining oil and seasoning in a separate bowl.
- Add the onion and pepper mixture to the pan in an even layer. Cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until browned, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Spread the seasoned beef in an even layer on the hot surface. Cook until browned, 1–2 minutes, then flip and cook for another minute to finish cooking.
- Turn off the heat, return the peppers and onions to the pan, and toss to combine. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and top each with 3 to 4 slices of provolone cheese. Let the cheese melt, covering it with a lid or dome if needed.
- Use a spatula to scoop each portion onto each hoagie roll. Serve immediately.
Notes
- If you have a large griddle, you can cook the onion and pepper mix on one side and the beef on the other side simultaneously.
- Spread the buns with butter and toast in the pan for 1-2 minutes, if desired.
